It can range from a dull ache, burning, tingling, or even pins and needles. Sufferers usually say it feels different to an acute cut or tissue tear.

Do pain killers (opioids) work for persistent pain?
Pain killers are usually used for acute or short term pain. For long-term pain they cause more drama and can make a bad situation even worse. Think of them as your needy long-lost great uncle who shows up on your doorstep. Don’t lend him your 50 bucks to start with.

Can anything be done about chronic pain?
Of course! Pain treatment has changed a lot in the past decade. Recent literature has shown that a psychological approach really works. No medication required.

How do you treat long-term pain?
